Police in two south suburbs are warning residents of a potential burglary scam. There were two similar incidents, one in Oak Lawn and one in Park Forest on Monday. In the Oak Lawn case, three men showed up at the house of an 85-year-old woman in a blue Buick Rendezvous, with temporary plates. Two entered the home after telling the woman they were there to cut a tree down in the back yard.
One of the men is described as being in his 30s with short black hair, 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 300 pounds. The men opened several dresser drawers and a jewelry box. It's not clear if they actually stole anything.
The scheme was broken up when the woman's daughter arrived and the men took off.
