Group says synthetic sport surfaces contain high lead levels

The watchdog agency says it compared the lead in synthetic athletic surfaces to the standards for lead in paint. The Center for Environmental Health is sending legal notices to 14 companies who make the products containing the allegedly high lead levels.

The Synthetic Turf Council has not commented on the allegation.

Concern over lead exposure from turf was first voiced by New Jersey state health officials after they also found excessive levels in synthetic turf fields.
