Flood victims fight with local officials

Floodwaters have receded in Wisconsin but now some home owners are fighting with local officials over a decision to condemn their houses. The city of Reedsburg condemned 18 flood damaged properties after the flood earlier this month. Some of those home owners say they their houses are salvageable and the condemnation comes as an unwanted surprise.

"The thing I'm angry about is how they went about this. I just want some answers," said Reedsburg resident Mary Curtain.

"It's helplessness because I just retired. I'm on a fixed income and so we had it ready to rebuild and they shut us down," said David Fray.

"There's some of those [houses] that are so stable looking. I just can't believe we can't do something," said Reedsburg Mayor Carol Held.

The city's housing inspector says he understands home owners' frustration but he's following municipal building safety codes.
