The body of an 18-year-old has been pulled from a pond at the Chicago campus of St. Xavier University.The Chicago Fire Department said they responded to a lagoon on campus around 8 p.m. Thursday and were told by a woman that an 18-year-old man went into the water to retrieve a volleyball. The man swam about 200-300 feet into the water before going down.
The fire department spokesperson says they believe the victim may have gotten tired. The man's body was recovered around 9:30 p.m. The lagoon is about 12 feet deep.
The victim was with a group playing volleyball on the west side of the lagoon.
A spokesman for St. Xavier, Joe Moore, said said they believe the victim was not a student at the college.
