Dr. Dino Rumoro has some tips for parents dealing with common injuries in children. When do you use the Heimlich?

Choking: Don't use Heimlich if child is breathing (choking or coughing) only use Heimlich if breathing has stopped (no coughing/struggling for air)

When it comes to burns, whether from sunburn or a fire source, how do you treat the burn at home and how do you know when it's severe enough to go to the hospital?

Burns: Treat with cool water (not ice or butter), leave blisters intact, burns that break the skin should be seen by a doctor

When should you go to the hospital for stitches?

Cuts: If it is large enough to see deep tissues, it needs to be treated by a doctor. Scars can occur even with stitches. Size of scar is generally the size of wound before repair.
