Hundreds of fugitives have been arrested in the Chicago area in a crackdown nicknamed "Operation Falcon." Several law enforcement agencies took part in the operation, which was led by the U.S. Marshall's Service. More than 300 fugitives have been arrested in the area. Dozens more are still being searched for.

This is a local version of a series of national crackdowns that began five years ago and have led to 28,000 arrests around the country.

"Law enforcement is stretched very thin these days. They are very needed and by these operations going forward, we are making the streets safer," said Tom Dart, Cook County Sheriff.

Some of the felons in custody face charges including homicide and sexual assault.
