An arsonist may have tried to set the office of Cook County Commissioner William Beavers on fire.A neighbor reported seeing someone on the roof of the building late Sunday and an electrician told the building's owner a gasoline can was left on the roof.

The fire department responded and discovered gasoline had been poured on the roof and on the building next door. Firefighters hosed off the buildings to remove the gasoline.

The Chicago police bomb and arson squad is investigating.
