SOUTH ELGIN, Ill. --The destructive ash borer has struck again -- this time in South Elgin. The bug was discovered earlier this week in an ash tree in the 800-block of James Street.
Crews are now canvassing ash trees for more insects. They plan to take down any trees that are infested.
Twenty percent of South Elgin's trees are ash. The ash borer has been reported in nine other suburban communities and in Chicago.
