City honors victims of Eastland disaster

Chicago remembered a tragic chapter in the city's history Sunday during the official commemoration of the Eastland disaster.Sunday afternoon, a ceremony was held near the site where the ship capsized on July 24, 1915.

The U.S. Coast Guard laid a bouquet of flowers into the Chicago River at the site.

Eight hundre fifty people died in the disaster, with more passenger fatalities than the Titanic.

Only one known survivor remains.
