New procedures at O'Hare after near collision

A near midair collision has prompted new procedures at O'Hare Airport. On Monday, an American Eagle passenger jet was cleared for take-off while a private jet was landing on an intersecting runway.

A veteran tower controller was apparently unaware the two were nearing each other.

However, another controller saw what was happening and told the private jet's pilot to abort the landing.

Radar shows the two planes came within a few hundred feet of one another.

Officials are changing how the tower at O'Hare and the air traffic control center in Elgin communicate with one another.
