O'Hare on track to be 2nd busiest airport in '08

CHICAGO In the first six months of this year, O'Hare logged 442,000 takeoffs and landings, giving it the title as America's second busiest airport.

But O'Hare also has the biggest drop in flights among the top five airports in the nation, according to the report from the Federal Aviation Administration. There were about 20,000 fewer flights compared to last year. Air traffic dropped 4.2 percent in the first six months of 2008. Officials blame the soaring cost of fuel.

Midway airport also reported a drop of about 14,000 flights.

The U.S. Department of Transportation reports Atlanta Hartsfield Airport came in as the nation's busiest airport with more than 488,000 takeoffs and landings.
