Paralyzed man files lawsuit against police

Daniel Casares is suing the Chicago Police Department and the City of Chicago. He says, in 2006, seven officers dragged him from a car and beat him unconscious when he took too long obeying their order to get out.

Casares is a quadriplegic and says he tried to tell that to the officers, but they attacked him instead.

Friday, Superintendent Weis said the Independent Police Review Authority would examine the case.

"Unless their investigation proves an act of misconduct, I'm always going to back our police officers. We just heard one side of the story. We don't want to be to quick to prejudge. We ought to wait to get the facts and see what really happened," he said.

Weis added that the department takes any allegations of excessive force seriously.
