Arson suspected in South Side fire

CHICAGO Investigators say the fire was set in multiple locations on the first floor in the 800-block of West 50th Street after 2 a.m.

Firefighters had to rescue 60-year-old Deborah Patton from the burning home.

Neighbors say they had tried to pull her to safety before firefighters arrived. One man had to be treated for cuts he suffered while trying to rescue Patton.

"Anthony went across the street and busted the window. We were trying to get her out. Smoke was so tough he couldn't get through the window," said Karrean Holmes, neighbor.

Patton is being treated for smoke inhalation.
