CHAMPAIGN, Ill. --An instructor at the University of Illinois is creating a new symbol of achievement for blind students who have earned a diploma. Bryan McMurray, who is himself blind, has created a Braille diploma. It is the first-ever for the university and it took weeks to perfect.
McMurray said the diploma was given to a blind student who earned a PhD in special needs.
McMurray said the student's excitement over actually being able read her own diploma made all the effort worthwhile.
