$25M in cocaine seized in Melrose Park

MELROSE PARK It happened Saturday morning at Solar Deburring Incorporated at 2001 N. Cornell Ave. Police say they received a tip to be on the lookout for a large load coming from the southwest border. Officers did surveillance and saw a refrigerator truck pulling into the company.

Three men were reportedly caught unloading 250 kilos of cocaine. Jose Reyes, the business owner; Cohs Meh Ruano Reyes, an employee; and Javier Huerta, the truck's driver, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Officers suspect the shipment was intended to be distributed locally.

"Chicago is a big hub for narcotics. I would assume that most of it was destined for this area, but Chicago also supplies other Midwest cities, like Gary, Indiana; Milwaukee, a lot of other big Midwest cities," said Joseph Vanacora, Cook County Sheriff's Police.

Each of the suspects is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
