State takes no action on school funding, rejects pay raise

Both the House and Senate adjourned Tuesday without taking any action.

Lawmakers say the governor offered no proposals for them to consider. State senator James Meeks criticized the governor for attending a livestock auction at the Illinois State Fair.

Meeks is asking Chicago Public School students to boycott on the first day of school. CPS leaders say they disagree with the boycott and are going door-to-door on Tuesday encouraging students to show up on the first day.

The governor says he's put forth a number of ideas which could have been discussed.

The State Senate did get some work done. Lawmakers rejected a hefty pay raise by a vote of 47 to nothing.
