Sox wives help kids prepare for school

Andrea Tome, the wife of Sox slugger Jim Thome, and Jennifer Konerko, wife of Sox First Baseman Paul Konerko helped them go shopping.

Thirty-six elementary students and five college-bound students shopped at a Target on the city's Southwest Side.

Thome and Konerko have teamed up with "Children's Home and Aid" to help children in foster care.

"Maybe someone will see this and say, 'I have it in me to be a foster parent.' Ultimately, that's the goal for us to put the word out there," Andrea Thome said.

"I know how important it is for these kids to have this stability, and just anything we can do is just wonderful," said Jennifer Konerko.

"Children's Home and Aid" helps more than 1,200 foster children in Illinois.
