South suburban Pace riders can expect delays

CHICAGO Monday morning, more than three dozen bus drivers with Pace called in sick. Eleven more workers failed to show up for Monday afternoon shifts. Many buses remained parked at the Pace garage in Markham. The transit service called it an illegal job action.

Last week, unionized drivers rejected a tentative contract agreement with the company.

Pace says about 63 trips on nearly a dozen routes were missed Monday.

The Amalgamated Transit Union says the sick out was not authorized by union officials.
