It's been known that smoking increases your chances of stroke, but new research shows younger women who smoke are at double the risk. Baltimore researchers looked at women 15-to-49 years old who smoked cigarettes. Women who smoke two packs of cigarettes a day are more than nine times at risk of developing a stroke.

Experts say, while quitting is the best thing you can do, cutting back does offer some benefit.

More information is available in the American Heart Association's journal of Stroke.
