It took firefighters a couple hours to finally free the truck driver who was trapped in the partially crushed cab. He is now hospitalized in serious condition.
"His semi was crushed underneath his trailer and on top of another concrete barrier wall. We couldn't get to him very easily. All we could do was hear him. The extraction took two, three hours," said Chief Mike Kuryla, Hillside Fire Department.
The accident snarled the eastbound lanes of the expressway for nearly four hours.
