A number of communities around Wisconsin will hold ceremonies Thursday in remembrance of the September 11 terrorist attacks seven years ago. At UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee, student organizations are planting nearly 3,000 small American flags in the ground on their campuses to memorialize the victims of Sept. 11.

At the downtown fire station in Milwaukee, firefighters will lower the U.S. flag at 8:45 a.m. and read the names of more than 300 firefighters who died in responding to the attacks.

A candlelight vigil is planned for Thursday night on Bascom Hill at UW-Madison.
