Homeowners get help avoiding foreclosure

CHICAGO County Board President Todd Stroger announced a series of workshops that will provide relief to some. The workshops will be conducted by the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of amErica.

The program provides counseling for at-risk homeowners. Counselors help determine if applicants were victimized by predatory lending or extreme rate adjustments, which is a requirement for eligibility. NACA helps them come up with a proposed solution and then works with the lender to advocate that solution.

"NACA will work with homeowners at the 13 workshops we plan this fall to reset and renegotiate the housing loans at affordable rates that will help keep people in their homes," said Stroger.
