The Illinois Gambling Industry is blaming the state's new smoking ban for a big drop in revenue this year.Illinois' casino gambling receipts are down by 18-percent from January through August this year versus 2007.

There were 926,000 fewer patrons in the first 8 months of this year than during the same period in 2007.

An industry official admits the shaky economy isn't helping matters. Meanwhile, an effort in the state legislature to get an exemption from the smoking ban for casinos has stalled.
