CPS chief calls for 'Pride' school

CHICAGO It's among 20 new schools recommended to the school board Wednesday, including one focusing on technology.

Supporters say the School for Social Justice Pride would provide a safe environment for gay, lesbian and transgender students.

Some gay rights activists oppose the idea, saying it would segregate those students.

Under the plan announced Wednesday, the new schools would open in the fall of next year and 2010.
