Police officer welcomed from Iowa prison

CHICAGO The Fraternal Order of Police hosted the event at its Union Hall, and soon, the officer may be back on the job.

Mette was released from an Iowa prison last week after an appeals court judge ruled he was acting in self defense three years ago when he hit a man during a fight in Dubuque.

Sunday, Mette said he was grateful for all the support from Chicagoans.

"Just walking down the street, I've had people stop and say, 'Congratulations. I'm happy you're home.' And it just reminds me how great this city really is," Mette said.

In addition to a haircut, Mette said he'd had his first-ever pedicure.

In the coming week, Officer Mette was planning to meet with police Superintendent Jody Weis to discuss his future plans.
