Teen charged as adult in fatal shooting

CHICAGO On October 1, Sameere Conn, 13, was inside buying a snack at a small grocery store on East 106th Street after a football game when a gunman outside started shooting. The boy had been fatally wounded. He died at the hospital later that night.

A 27-year-old man was also injured in the shooting. Police say the two victims were not together and it isn't clear who - if anyone - was the intended target.

Police arrested 15-year-old Sebatian Rodriguez in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

Sameere Conn was an eighth grader and star athlete at Bright Elementary School. His murder outraged the community as hundreds took to the streets demanding peace among gang members who have been fighting a deadly turf battle in the neighborhood for many years.

Rodriguez is being held at a juvenile detention center.
