Strength training could keep brains fit

Researchers found an improvement in higher order thinking skills among elderly men and women who did strength and balance training.

Past studies have shown a link between brain function and balance problems.

The program detailed in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society combined walking twice a week with exercises for the knees, hips and ankles. Patients not only showed improvement in cognitive skills, they also decreased their risk of falling.
