Sheriff presents officers valor awards

CHICAGO Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart presented 96 officers, including 35 from Chicago, with valor awards. About 30 were honored for heroism and bravery in the line of duty. The others were presented with awards of merit for outstanding service and professionalism.

"These are heroes, these are courageous people. These are the people that put their own lives at stake out there for us each and every single day. Folks, remember that when we go out and talk to our children," said Tom Dart, Cook County Sheriff.

Dart also posthumously recognized slain Chicago Police Officer Richard Francis, who was killed in July... responding to a disturbance on a CTA bus.
