Man arrested in pair of sexual assaults

CHICAGO Police have charged 33-year-old John Hopkins with an attack at 63rd and Rhodes earlier this week and an assault earlier this month in Hyde Park.

In the latest attack, police say Hopkins pulled a knife on a 19-year-old woman who was walking home after getting off a CTA bus. He allegedly forced her into an alley where he sexually assaulted her.

Investigators also believe Hopkins is the man seen on surveillance video from a Hyde Park apartment building. In the attack on October 8, police say the suspect followed the victim into the lobby of the building and then forced her through a back door where he attacked her.

The building's security guard had mistakenly thought the suspect knew the victim when they walked in.

Hopkins is due in court for a bond hearing Thursday.
