Study: Pregnant weight gain leads to big babies

Researchers found that women who gained more than 40 pounds during pregnancy have nearly twice the risk of delivering a heavy baby.

A study of 40,000 mothers and their babies revealed 1-in-5 women gain too much weight during pregnancy, which doubles the chances her baby will weigh 9-pounds or more.

Research also suggests these babies are programmed to become obese later in life.

The study appears in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.
