The Cook County treasurer says, as of today, about 476,000 people still have not paid their bill. That adds up to $1.8 billion in unpaid taxes.
To avoid a 1.5 percent late penalty, bills can be paid at the Cook County Treasurer's Office or online at http://www.cookcountytreasurer.com/ and at many Chase bank locations.
Taxpayers can also mail payments, but it has to be postmarked on or before Monday, November 3.
