Fallen Marine from Poland honored

CHICAGO Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn saluted the service of Marine Private First Class Dawid Pietrek

Pietrek joined the Marine Corps after working in Bensenville as a caregiver. He was deployed to Afghanistan where he was killed by a roadside bomb in June.

Quinn is heading to Poland to present Pietrek's Purple Heart to his mother.

"Dawid believed with all his heart in the democracy and government of the people, and it's very, very important we honor special heroes like Dawid. I think all of us owe a debt of gratitude to his family. And we want to make sure that his memory is never forgotten," Quinn said.

Pietrek was awarded U.S. citizenship after his death.
