CPD officers honored for military service

CHICAGO The Police Emerald Society Bagpipers played patriotic music during the Navy Pier ceremony.

The honorees were given distinguished military deployment awards. Some of them are sworn officers and others are civilian department employees. Mayor Daley and police superintendent Jody Weis praised them.

"You're exceptional," said Mayor Daley, "and I thank you on behalf of your great service in the military. Extraordinary deeds on behalf of the military in Iraq, Afghanistan and throughout the world, wherever you were stationed."

"Your military service makes you even better police officers and civilian department members. You should be doubly proud. You have served in the military of the world's greatest nation. You now serve as a member of the police department in the greatest city," said Supt. Jody Weis, Chicago Police Department.

¶ Those honored served in the military since the beginning of 2006.
