Millennium Park Ice Rink open for season

February 4, 2009 9:49:53 AM PST
The McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park opened for the season today. Originally set to open a week earlier, the warmer weather led officials to postpone the first day.

(PRESS RELEASE) Skating in Millennium Park is free and open to the public. Skate rental is available for $10. The ice rink is located on Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison Streets.

The rink is open daily from 10am until 10pm. For the Thanksgiving holiday on November 27, and on Christmas Day, December 25, the rink will be open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The ice rink is just one component of the 24.5-acre Millennium Park, which has welcomed more than fifteen million visitors since opening in July 2004. Among Millennium Park's other prominent features are the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue of its kind in the United States; the interactive Crown

Fountain by Jaume Plensa; the contemporary Lurie Garden designed by the team of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, Piet Oudolf and Robert Israel; and Anish Kapoor's hugely popular Cloud Gate sculpture.
