Hib vaccine in short supply

Hib is one of the most important causes of bacterial illness in young children.

The agency says it's yet to see an increase in cases but decided to step up surveillance after the disruption in the supply of the vaccine.

Hib has virtually been eliminated since it was introduced in 1988.

The CDC says the shortage is not serious but it is concerning. It was caused by a recall of certain vaccines and the temporary suspension of production by the makers.
