Deadlines for Ind. disaster relief

MUNSTER, Ind. Devastating floods caused millions of dollars in damage in northwest Indiana in September.

Many parts of communities like Munster were underwater after two days of heavy rain.

Monday, November 24, 2008, was also the deadline to return Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Applications.

More than $50 million of federal disaster aid has already been approved to residents of Indiana.

Filing Information

Individuals and business owners in the 30 counties designated for Individual Assistance can register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA, that's 1-800-621-3362. Or, go on-line to fema.gov.

Speech or hearing impaired residents can apply using TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Today is also the deadline to return SBA disaster loan applications.

Applicants with question regarding their SBA loan applications may call the SBA Customer service line at 1-800-659-2955.

Applicants may also visit an SBA Disaster Loan Center.

There are two SBA centers in Lake County. 9450 Calumet Avenue in Munster and at Ivy Tech Community College, 1440 E. 35th Avenue in Gary.

Anyone needing help with other disaster assistance matters can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.

Approved federal disaster aid to residents of Indiana has now topped $50 million.
