Newly accessible Brown Line stop reopens

Mayor Daley cut a ribbon, and then he and 47th Ward Ald. Gene Schulter led other officials into the station.

The sation is the thirteenth of 18 Brown Line stops to reopen after being renovated. December 19, the Damen station will become the fourteenth.

CTA Pres. Ron Huberman said the Brown Line is the agency's third busiest line, and its infrastructure needed upgrading.

" This is another station that's opening up on time. We're particularly excited about the new stations that are opening up because they're now accessible to individuals with disabilities. This station has two elevators that make it accessible. It has a lot of other customer-friendly features. It's obviously a larger, wider, well-lit lobby. It's got the larger platforms to accommodate eight-car trains," Huberman.

Huberman said the CTA has ordered 406 new rail cars to provide greater capacity for its riders.
