Emil Jones says he wants Senate seat

For the first time, outgoing Illinois Senate President Emil Jones says he would like the seat.

Jones says he thinks Obama's replacement should be black. Obama was the only African American in the U.S. Senate.

Several local lawmakers are pushing for Jones including, alderman Carrie Austin of the 34th Ward.

Governor Rod Blagojevich will decide who will take Obama's place in the Senate.

Besides Jones, Rep. Danny Davis, State Veterans Affairs Chief Tammy Duckworth, Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky have all been mentioned as possible replacements.
