Some IL Republicans urge special election

They're upset that the Democratic majority ended the session Tuesday without taking up debate on a special election to fill President-Elect Obama vacated U.S. Senate seat. They say two thirds of Illinois voters support a special election.

"We had an opportunity today and yesterday to remove a little of the political scum away from the next senator of Illinois. Unfortunately, the people in control - and I will not call them leaders because leaders move states forward - today they have set Illinois back again," said State Sen. Bill Brady(R), Bloomington.

Lawmakers had indicated they wanted to move quickly to strip Gov. Blagojevich of the power to appoint a replacement for Obama. Instead Democrats have been focused on the possible impeachment of Blagojevich.
