Mother charged after kids die in fire

CHICAGO Prosecutors say 29-year-old Erika Ramirez left her four children alone, so she could watch a pool game with her boyfriend.

She is charged with four felony counts of endangering the life of a child.

The fire started Monday at a house in the 7200-block of South Troy. Six-year-old Perla Gonzalez and 9-year-old Carla Gonzalez were trapped in the basement and died. Police officers rescued two other children.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.
