Children who go to school near fast food restaurants are more likely to be obese than kids who attend other schools, according to a study of more than 500,000 students who attend middle and high schools in California. The researchers also found that students who go to school near fast food restaurants eat fewer fruits and vegetables and drink more soda.

Researchers don't know if their findings apply to other parts of the US.

This study is reported in the American Journal of Public Health.
