Chicago not taking chances with flood

CHICAGO Officials are preparing for the worst along the Chicago River. Sand bagging was underway on Friday in the 5000 block of Monticello as well as on Drake Avenue. Crews are putting down 3,000 sand bags. That area saw major flooding during a huge rain storm back in the summer.

With all the ice, snow and rain, catch basins need help in order to keep from backing up. City crews have been trying to clear debris and snow on Friday.

City officials are urging residents to avoid parking on catch basins and keep them clear of debris so they drain the streets. Otherwise, with the next round coming, flooding could be significant.
