Why does it cost so much to send a text message?

There are now around 20 class action lawsuits against wireless carriers claiming price fixing.Macworld.com looked into the issue and found that while major providers charge around 20 cents per message if you don't have a bulk plan it costs them nearly nothing.

Text messages use a bandwidth called 'control channels.' That space is set aside, regardless of whether or not it's being used.
