A woman in her early 20s was found dead in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood early Monday. Police say a tow truck driver found the woman in an alley near North Kenmore and West Foster.

There's no word yet on how the woman died or her identity.

The woman's body was found about 3:20 a.m., according to police, who said the woman appears to be white.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office remained on the scene at 6 a.m. Though the cause of death was not known immediately, police were probing the possibility the woman fell from a building nearby.

Police officers canvassed the neighborhood and searched inside the surrounding buildings.

Lincoln District Police Sgt. Patrick Barker said Belmont Area detectives were conducting a death investigation.

The STNG Wire contributed to this report.
