5 Ill. national guardsmen injured in Kabul attack

January 18, 2009 (CHICAGO) The five guardsmen were members of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.The Guard reports wo were seriously injured and flown to Germany for treatment.

Their names were not released.

One U.S. service member and four Afghan civilians were killed in the attack, which took place early Saturday on a heavily guarded road between the German Embassy and a U.S. military base where soldiers train Afghan police and army members.

The Illinois National Guard recently sent 3,000 soldiers to Afghanistan.
