O'Hare to get new bird-tracking radar system

January 26, 2009 (CHICAGO) Developers say the radar could help pilots avoid the type of collision believed to have brought down a U.S. Airways jet nearly two weeks ago. That plane lost thrust in both engines after it apparently smacked into a flock of birds shortly after take-off at New York's LaGuardia Airport.

The radar could be used to delay take-offs or re-route flights before they leave the ground. O'Hare is slated to get one of the systems within six weeks.
