Workers sue, claim abusive labor practices

February 2, 2009 The suit claims workers did not receive fair wages or overtime pay.

Lawyers for the workers say they've been trying to resolve the issue since last May but have had no luck.

"When a business violates the law and does not pay overtime or minimum wage, that hurts not only those workers who do not receive the wages that's owed to them, but it also hurts the community," said Jed Untereker, Working Hands Legal Clinic.

The suit is the first step in what may become a class action lawsuit against the store owner.

Antonio Macias owns La Fruteria. Calls to Macias have not been returned.
