Wis. police chief takes shock for charity

February 4, 2009 COMBINED LOCKS, Wis. Wulgaert received a 50,000-volt jolt from a Taser device on Tuesday as a fundraising effort for Special Olympics that brought in more than $1,000.

The idea for the event came months earlier when officers teased the chief for being the lone officer in the department who hadn't been shocked during training.

Wulgaert said he'd do it before his March 1 retirement if his officers raised $500 for Special Olympics. They did, and the community doubled it.

Wulgaert said the demonstration worked as intended, but it felt like he was "kicked by a mule."
