In this tough economy, value is a major talking point at the Chicago Auto Show, which gets underway on Friday. The best overall value of the year awards were given out by intellichoice.com on Thursday at McCormick Place.

The pick for best car under $24,000 is the Toyota Prius.

The company examines data to figure out the real costs of owning a car.

The top piece of advice? Consider resale value before you buy a vehicle.

"That is a smart move that most people don't consider, because buying a car, that's fun, you know, it smells good, it's exciting, you don't think 4 years, what's it gonna cost to sell it," said James Bell, intellichoice.com.

The auto show will run from Friday through February 22nd.
