Utility crews have restored most of the power to the Gary-Chicago Airport after a pair of nearby car crashes knocked out the lights.Two drivers on Industrial Highway crashed into utility poles near the airport around 5:30 Thursday morning.
Nipsco explained one of the accidents knocked out power to 950 customers system wide.
Backup generators at the airport kicked in right away, supplying power to the control tower and runway lights.
Crews worked for about three hours to get the power back on.
